Preparation for the engagement shoot

How does it work and how long does it take?

Hair and makeup will take about an hour before the shoot itself begins.

The shoot is likely to take a couple of hours more, so please plan to have a half day free.

Where will it be done?

We’ll search for the best location, whether at your home or at a park, garden or other venue. If you don’t have any special ideas I can propose some lovely locations but there may be somewhere really special to you both – perhaps where you met, or where you first kissed? Let’s link to the romance of the occasion!

What should I wear?

It’s a good idea to choose clothes that make you feel relaxed – think about coordination between the two of you so if one has loud, bright colours the other should not be in cool pastels. It’s a good idea to have a couple of sets of clothes or even just a change of top which will give you a different look. If it’s in a public place and you don’t want to change trousers think about some mix and match options.

What sort of couple are you? Formal or informal, relaxed or ‘proper’- what pastimes do you have – walking in the countryside with a dog, riding motorbikes or playing chamber music together? There are all kinds of options to show you in your ‘off duty’ time and having fun together.

If you have a well behaved dog bring him/her along. What other pets might you like to include?

What else needs to be arranged?

I can arrange a hair and makeup artist if you wish me to do that; there will be a small extra cost.

If you don’t want a hair and makeup artist (i.e. if you are an expert yourself) please do your hair and makeup as though you were going out for the evening, i.e. a little bit more than the morning makeup or the ‘work look’

Please use Matt powder if possible - a shiny look isn’t usually flattering. – and that’s just for him....!

....not really, just joking!

Props

Depending on the location and the feel of the occasion we want to create we can use hats, scarves, umbrellas, wellies, picnic hampers, musical instruments, bagpipes, as well as a load of other options – let your imagination roam free.
